Hi! It's been a fun few months, it really flew by. The thing I liked the most was the social aspect - i met loads of new people that I would've never known existed, you know. My agent is putting my into a few castings in preparation for this years winter shoots so I'm not exactly giving up my dayjob but hopeful of something coming through. All the best and ill let you know if anything exciting happens. Tc Vaz

The Model Factory | Attitude in Modelling

The Model Factory and the 3 P's

Welcome back to The Model Factory. In February we had a great month with some of our models having successful casting auditions and getting great jobs. We thought we should review some of the best traits that good models work on and improving yourself has a direct effect on the likelihood of beating the competition in a casting or agency interview.

The Model Factory

Being Personable

The idea that being catty is cool is out dated. To make things run smoothly, being approachable and friendly is a much better idea. First impressions are very important in modelling so work on your introductions and draw people in, make them want to know more, rather than pushing them out with a bad attitude.

Punctuality

Being punctual is a simple thing that many people lack. If you are late for your first meeting with someone, they will always remember you as 'the girl who was late that time'. Alternatively, wouldn't it be better if they remembered you as 'the girl who showed up 20 minutes early fully prepared'? In The Model Factory's experience many advertising agencies will work with a handful of models over and over again. Once they find someone reliable, punctual, and professional, why would they risk taking on someone they don't really know? If you get the chance, don't blow it by being late - they will never believe your excuses!

Perseverance

If things are out of your control, and you are feeling let down by not getting a specific job or missing out on a good agency, make a decision whether you'll carry on with your head held high, or wallow in defeat, hoping for something else to find its way to you. If you tend to do the latter, you'll find modelling a difficult pursuit. This is where The Model Factory can help though. Find out more about us in The Model Factory video.

The Model Factory: Charlie

Charlie and The Model Factory!

The Model Factory can help you start a career in modelling. Although we are not an agency, we offer free advice and guidance to aspiring models. Starting out, especially if you are young, with the aim of being a professional model, is an extremely confusing task. If you have heard the phrase, "She's more than just a pretty face" then you are already ahead of the game. To become a successful model you need to be aware of what is involved. Here is a message we received last week from a young man who understood that he needed to be the full package, and worked hard for six months to make sure that he had the best chances of beating the competition.

"Hi it's been a while but I finally had some good news. I had a three day long shoot for an autumn winter catalogue for their 2015 range. Before the job I only met them once, I didn't meet them through agency but contacted them directly and went to their offices to meet with the marketing department, upon your great advice. Meeting face to face was the scariest part of the last few months, especially when compared to the job itself. I managed to leave a good first impression though and they seemed happy with the results of the shoot. I thought id just say thank you because without The Model Factory i would have probably ended up applying to the first agency I found and making all the mistakes in the book! Wish you all the best, hope you have a great weekend. Charlie"

Please feel free to get in touch with us through The Model Factory website if you want to find out more about the best ways into modelling as a career. As we can see from Charlie, some times a direct approach is the best way. Make sure to follow The Model Factory on twitter, and tweet us your questions and pics @themodelfactor!

The Model Factory Reviews

The Model Factory Reviews

The team at The Model Factory have decades of combined experience in the modelling industry. We pride ourselves on helping aspiring models fulfill their potentials and love to hear about successes as and when they happen. Many men and women make the decision every day to become models and we see a variety of applications from all ages. The first thing you need to do is forget your stereotypes. Modelling is more and more about representing the average person in a society as people can relate to the advert better when they see parallels with the model. This development has lead to modelling opening up to a far wider range of people than ever before. To find out more about The Model Factory you can watch the video at the bottom of this post.

Any models first day on the job can be terrifying, but Lisa seems to have overcome her nerves and amazed the clients on her first day as a catalogue model. Here is what she had to say:

Hi all, Thanks for writing, it went really well thanks - to my surprise! I was absolutely petrified and didn't sleep a wink the night before. It seems like a bit of a blur now because I had 15 outfit changes - in a tent in a field! I guess it was to be expected for an outdoor clothing shoot but I didnt even think about that! At least the clothes I modelled were really warm, it was a very wintery day in the peak district. They gave me a lift to the train station after the shoot and although they seemed like a really tight team I felt I was part of the family by the end of the day. I really hope they get me to do more shoots next year. I'll keep you posted, keep in touch xx

Female Modelling with The Model Factory

Break into Female Modelling with The Model Factory

Exciting and potentially hugely rewarding, female modelling is the largest segment of modelling as a whole. Any women setting out on this path will realise that this also means it is the most competitive. If you are new to modelling then The Model Factory can assist you in building your career.

When we are asked, "What do I need to do to be a famous model?" Our answer is both complicated and simple. The simple part of the answer is that your look and your skills need to be rounded and flexible, and you also need good representation. The more complex side is the fact that you need to be the full package. This includes having a rounded character, a good sense of the modelling environment, a defined look and personality, and also the ability to get on well with a wide variety of people.

Who are The Model Factory?

Who are The Model Factory?

The Model Factory are often asked who to approach, and how to approach them? Do I need a portfolio? Do I fit the requirements that are expected of a model? Ultimately, the end-goal is to get professional modelling work, either as an agency model or as a freelance model. However, before you take your first steps into the industry it is vital to establish if you have the potential to be a model and where that potential lies, otherwise you may end up heading down the wrong path. Below are the most common types of modelling.

Commercial models promote products and services through advertisements in the media, such as television and the internet as well as in print ads. They appear in commercials, on product packaging, in magazines and on billboards. This is by far the most comprehensive and varied type of modelling.
The Model Factory

The requirements in commercial modelling are not particularly stringent. The look is based solely on what the client envisages for the advertisement. Contrary to popular belief, many successful commercial models look like normal, everyday people. However, they are set apart by their ability to express emotion, and their ability to replicate that same look time and time again on demand. Actors often cross over into commercial modelling as clients often look for models with not only the right look, but also personality, versatility and great acting ability. Good commercial models are usually photogenic. Having a unique or unusual look is good but is not absolutely essential.

The Model Factory Review by Kayler, London, 2014

The Model Factory is not an agency as we do not find models work, but we have an enormous amount of experience and expertise in the area. Our team are dedicated to ensuring you have a safe and secure experience in kick starting your modelling career.

Here is what Kayler's mother had to say about her experience with The Model Factory.

"I came to Kube Studios just over a year ago with my 3 year old daughter to see how well she would respond to working with photographers. The team were great and welcoming which put us at ease. Also, they knew exactly what they were doing and the advice given was fantastic. Since then my daughter has been signed to an extremely reputable agency based in London and was out on castings immediately for brands such as Burberry, Argos, John Lewis etc. where she was a reserve model. She landed her first shoot for The Canary Wharf Group and has a lot more work in the pipeline. I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the team as the aftercare has been superb, I couldn't have achieved this without them."
